The SLP Queens Have Spoken B&B’s Royal Mandates for 2022

  1. Listen to the parents, they know their kids better than you.

  2. Always look in your client’s mouth – do the oral mech!

  3. You should be getting at least 400 productions of your target in 45 minutes.

  4. If there is weakness, then you must do oral motor exercises.

  5. No one treatment works for every child.

  6. Don’t ignore the history when looking for your differential diagnosis.

  7. Can’t make progress if therapy is only 2x per week for 45 minutes – home program!!!

  8. Learn from your mistakes – we all make ‘em.

  9. Work at the phrase level as soon as you can.

  10. Who said we cannot use a combination approach?

  11. If they aren’t making progress – you need to do something different.

  12. Always do the language sample to determine the most functional goals – syntax errors are a thing and impact conversation significantly.

  13. Don’t fill in the blanks for your client and think THEY are doing it.

  14. Even when your clients say what they would do, know they might not in real life – so get them out of therapy room.

  15. Practice, practice, practice, and practice skills some more!

  16. Make sure you’re treating the root of the problem, not drilling the deficit.

  17. Are you missing any precursor skills?

  18. Simple is better when planning therapy activities.

  19. Read you instructions out loud, can your roommate do it?

  20. If they can only do it with you, in your therapy room, GOAL NOT MET!

  21. You must take data; you can’t just guess.

  22. Compassion and passion drive excellent services.
